These fall roughly into three buckets:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Misinformation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 This is false information, but the person sharing it doesn\u2019t mean to hurt anyone.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Disinformation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 This is also false, but it\u2019s shared on purpose to trick or confuse people.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Malinformation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 This is partly true, but it\u2019s changed or told in a way that can still hurt people.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>&nbsp;<\/h5>\n<h5><b>How Can You Tell If News Is Real or Fake?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you find yourself wondering if something you read in the news is fake or not, you can ask yourself these questions:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Does it make you feel strongly?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Is it taking sides on a hot topic?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Is it an extraordinary claim?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Does it contain clickbait? *Some headlines can be misleading to get more clicks<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Is it stretching the truth or leaving out some parts?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Is it spreading to sites that don\u2019t have credibility?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re still not sure, do more research! Check different sources to see if it\u2019s similar across different outlets.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<h5>&nbsp;<\/h5>\n<h5><b>Fact Check Yourself Before You Wreck Yourself<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are many sites to visit that can help you with fact-checking if you are unsure if something is true or not! Here are some sites to help you:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politifact.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">P<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">olitifact.com\/<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A nonpartisan fact-checker, started in 2007 as an election-year project of the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tampa Bay Times<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, that focuses on \u201cindependence, transparency, fairness, thorough reporting, and clear writing.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/factcheck.org\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FactCheck.org<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A nonpartisan, nonprofit \u201cconsumer advocate\u201d started at the University of Pennsylvania, which aims to determine the truth of news put out by U.S. politicians.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/snopes.com\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Snopes.com<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The oldest and largest fact-checking site online that documents its sources so readers can decide for themselves, highly used by journalists, folklorists, and readers<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/opensecrets.org\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">OpenSecrets.org<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A nonpartisan and independent nonprofit that follows the money in American politics by providing comprehensive and reliable data, analysis, and tools<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.factcheck.org\/scicheck\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SciCheck<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A feature of <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/factcheck.org\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FactCheck.org<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that focuses on only false and misleading scientific claims that are made by people who try to change laws or rules<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/politics-fact-check\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NPR Fact Check<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An independent, nonprofit media organization, NPR (National Public Radio) was founded on a mission to create a more informed public.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The media is a powerful tool that can give both good and bad information. It is up to us to learn how to tell the difference, especially with how advanced AI has gotten. Good information gives facts, includes different voices, and tells the full story, not just the one that gets the most clicks or makes you feel a certain way.
